Kindergarten is a year when children gain incredible momentum in learning and become accustomed to a new classroom environment and schedule. It’s a year filled with many firsts — a time when values begin to take hold, friendships form, and routines are established. We know this can feel like a big step, for children and parents alike. Rest assured, your child will be known by name, cared for as an individual, and nurtured every step of the way. At Veritas, honoring the stage of the child, we provide a classical education dedicated to supporting your child’s intellectual development with a balance of spiritual, social, emotional, and physical growth.
Our program is built on the Memoria Press Kindergarten curriculum, based on years of research, with a primary focus on learning to read. Alongside comprehensive reading instruction, children learn correct pencil grip, letter and number formation, and basic arithmetic — counting, adding, subtracting, telling time, and counting money. Our classroom is traditional and teacher-led, set in a quiet, orderly environment with equal measures of seat time and gross motor breaks, like recess, throughout the day. Mornings are devoted to academic endeavors, while afternoons are reserved for enrichment and joyful experiences — because we believe learning should also be full of delight.
Our kindergarten program runs five days a week and is available to children who are 5 years old by September 1. Students attend a full school day from 8:00 a.m. to 3:15 p.m., engaging in hands-on learning within a Christ-centered academic curriculum, guided by teachers who love them well.
Kindergarten marks the start of the first phase of a Classical education, known as the Grammar stage. During this time, your child will build a strong foundation for their academic journey.
Through our whole-child approach to education, your child will benefit from the following.
Biblical values. Students begin to dive into God’s Word and learn how to apply it in their lives, as they memorize Scripture, learn about biblical characters, and hear Bible stories.
Differentiated instruction. Our kindergarten teachers work closely with first-time Veritas students and parents to support them in a challenging curriculum.
Stimulating environment. Our kindergarteners enjoy age-appropriate playground equipment and a beautiful, park-like setting where they can expend their energy in a space designed with safety in mind.
While our kindergartners learn by memorizing and reciting content, they also engage in hands-on experiences. They may take part in gardening or story-related arts and crafts. Using hands-on tools such as cubes, pattern blocks, and base-ten blocks, students explore mathematical concepts through engaging visual models and real-world examples, building confidence and a strong foundation in essential skills. We guide them to master math concepts step by step, ensuring their numerical literacy.
As much as possible, your child will be outside enjoying the beauty surrounding our campus. Storytime, for instance, might be held outside where children can soak in the sun, hear the sounds of nature, and breathe fresh air. Our kindergarteners also enjoy visiting our prayer and butterfly gardens, green turfed space with umbrellas, and Under the Oaks, a completely shaded space with a deck and benches.
We want our students to learn by doing and engage in rewarding experiences that do not involve individual screen time. That is why our kindergarteners do not have access to technology in the classroom. Students build a strong academic foundation through the study and practice of math facts, sentence development, phonics, reading, and writing, with an emphasis on repetition and mastery.
